Winter-Spring 2016

Estimating & Setting Rates  –  Wednesday, 13 January

Elizabeth d’Anjou, long-time freelancer and assistant twig coordinator, will share her business know-how regarding how to estimate and what to charge for freelance editing services.

Acquisitions Editing  –  Wednesday, 10 February

James MacNevin, acquisitions editor at McGill-Queen’s University Press, will take us through the acquisitions process for a scholarly publisher.

Online Resources for Editors  –  Wednesday, 9 March

Share a favourite editing-related website, app, blog, style guide, etc., and/or pick up some recommendations from your colleagues, as we pool our knowledge in an online resource show-and-tell session.

Authors Talk Editing  –  Wednesday, 13 April

Kingston-area writers Melanie Dugan, Shelley Tanaka, and Ian Coutts will talk about the experience of being edited and editing others.

Stylistic Editing Exercise  –  Wednesday, 11 May

We’ll make this a hands-on evening, each trying a stylistic editing exercise (from the Editors Canada certification study guide) and then discussing our approaches.
